Pre-Tour Option

Havana Extension.

There is plenty to see in the old city of Havana, Cuba. We suggest you participate in this extension to see what’s there.

Two days before embarkation, fly from Miami, Florida, to Havana, and check into your hotel, the Melia Cohiba Hotel or comparable. Enjoy an orientation walk along the Malecon, the city’s three-mile coastal boulevard and a gathering place each evening for the locals, Habaneros.

The following morning, get acquainted with one of the most alluring cities in the Western Hemisphere. An architectural historian guides you on a walking tour through the heart of Old Havana, founded in 1519 and today a UNESCO World Heritage site. Learn about the city’s colonial history, its ongoing restoration, and its vibrant street life. View the handsome main squares, including Plazas Vieja, de San Francisco, de la Catedral, and de Armas, the latter home to the stately Palacio de los Capitanes Generales.

Plaza de la Cathedral.

Enjoy lunch in the old town at a paladar (a privately-run restaurant) as you taste traditional cuisine and leanrt about small-business ownership in Cuba.

After lunch, enter the cloister of the Seminary of San Carlos y San Ambrosio.

Finally, visit the Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos Workshop/School. Here, artisans specializing in monument restoration speak to you about their work.

On embarkation day, transfer from Havana to Sierra del Rosario, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve region and mountain range in the provinces of Pinar del Río and Artemisa. Here, too, is the settlement of Las Terrazas, a sustainable village that originated as a reforestation project in 1968 and is now Cuba’s main ecotourism center. Meet the residents, who discuss small-town life in Cuba. Visit a large reforestation program, and experience the reserve’s rich biodiversity.

Return to Havana and embark Le Ponant in the late afternoon.

Pricing: Per person, based on double occupancy from $995
