Local Flavor

Our neighboring continent. So close, yet so mysterious. A veritable paradise at our geographic doorstep. Central and South America have drawn seekers of wealth, wisdom, and beauty for centuries, everyone from the ingenious Inca to writerly Mayans to ruthless conquistadors.

An expedition is required--in luxury, naturally. Join us for just such an escapade, making our way in Central and South America in the luxury of a private jet.

Private Jet: Best of the Americas. 17 Days.

In 1911, President Teddy Roosevelt declared, "I took the Canal Zone and let Congress debate; and while the debate goes on, the canal does also."

Whether you agree or disagree with his tactics, Roosevelt was determined to change the face of the Americas, and he did so in Central America’s southernmost nation, Panama. A century later, the Panama Canal still wows.

Tikal, Guatemala.Join us on a whirlwind Private Jet Journey through Central and South America, and see for yourself just what this engineering marvel means to the world at large. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves.

Our 17-day journey begins in Miami, Florida, where we gather with fellow travelers over dinner. After a sound night’s sleep, we’re on our way.

Tikal, Guatemala, illustrates the genius of the mighty Mayans. Among their ranks were astronomers, mathematicians, priests, and artists. No wonder UNESCO has named Tikal a World Heritage site.

Cusco, Peru, is one of our favorite South American cities. Tucked high into the Andes, it masterfully blends Spanish colonial and Inca remains.

Aboard the Hiram Bingham. From Cusco, board the elegant Orient-Express Hiram Bingham train for a ride to Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu is known (and with very good reason) for having the most spectacular setting of any ruin—anywhere. We spend the day decoding all that the Inca left behind. The Inca were phenomenal masons, and their work has survived the test of time, wind, and rain. Alternatively, explore Trujillo and its Moche and Chimu burial chambers, and Chan Chan, capital of the ancient Chimu people.

Mysterious moai await on Easter Island. What was the role of these outsized stone busts? Who carved them? And who managed to jimmy them into place along the coast?

La Boca. Argentina. Back to mainland South America for time in Buenos Aires, Argentina, a throwback to glamorous 19th-century Europe. Perhaps you’d like a backstage tour of the newly restored Teatro Colón opera house?

From urban paradise to natural wonder. Our private jet whisks us off to Iguazù Falls, where 275 thundering cascades mark the boundary between Argentina and Brazil. The highlight here? A helicopter ride over the roiling falls.

Iguazu Falls, Brazil. On to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Our hotel faces Copacabana Beach. The action here is 24/7, but we also reach beyond the city.

Finally, to Panama City, Panama, a surprising mix of the historic and the contemporary. Experience the canal from the deck of a private ship. Transit one of the locks before entering the Bay of Panama. A perfect spot for a celebratory dinner before we end our journey in Fort Lauderdale.

Please note: On this journey, R. Crusoe & Son partners with Lakani World Tours, and Crusoe travelers share the private jet with other, non-Crusoe travelers.
