With this cruise, we revive a grand tradition, recalling a time when kings and nobles invited great musicians of their day to perform for the royal family and the court. Each day of our voyage introduces us to a new culture or civilization: Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman. But the music is the common thread throughout, a treasure, a legacy for all to share.
Come with us aboard the Corinthian II. Meet our seven musicians, our three lecturers, and fellow music lovers as we cruise the azure waters of the Mediterranean.
Music on the Mediterranean. Aboard the Corinthian II. 10 Days.
Music and a European vacation go together like a hand and glove. Find out for yourself on an unusual Mediterranean cruise with R. Crusoe.
On our ship, the 114-passenger, all-suite Corinthian II, enjoy a cruise filled with great music performed by award-winning artists in unforgettable locations. Our seven talented and accomplished onboard musicians perform works by the great composers. As a special feature, Lowell Lieberman—one of them—performs a piano quintet of his own composition. Each concert is private, closed to the general public, completely exclusive, performed only for us.
Ancient cultures, poignant history lessons, and gorgeous scenery await on the Italian mainland, in Sicily, in Greece, and in Turkey. Don't miss this experience.
Board the ship in Rome, they we're off to Pompeii, the Roman city stopped dead in its tracks by Mount Vesuvius, which blew its stack in A.D. 79. In Amalfi, see life as it was lived in coastal Italy in the 11th century.
Onto the Italian island of Sicily, where we dock in Siracusa for a small group guided tour. Siracusa once ranked among the great and powerful cities of the ancient world.
We also visit nearby Noto, a jewel of an old town surrounded by olive and almond groves.
Spend a day at sea before we alight on Crete for a examination of Knossos, where King Minos built a labyrinthine palace 4,000 years ago. The local archaeological museum is wonderful, too, bursting with authentic artifacts.
Then to Santorini, an exceptional Greek island. On a guided tour, see what remains of the local Minoan population at the excavated site of Akrotiri. Also here: two charming towns and a top museum of prehistory.
Rhodes, next, for a look at the old town, a delightful medieval relic that owes much to the Crusaders who arrived here in the 14th century. In the town of Lindos,
see the remains of an acropolis and Athena's Temple.
Finally, glorious Ephesus, Turkey. It was here that St. Paul addresses the Ephesians. Take an extensive private tour of some of the finest ruins on the Mediterranean. Visit the Library of Celsus, the Temple of Hadrian, the Basilica of St. John, and more before we cruise on to our disembarkation point in Piraeus, Athens's port city.
