Local Flavor
Morocco, land of minarets and marketplaces, snake charmers and street musicians. Where slaves became kings, rivalries built cities, and ancient cultures mingles in the timeless traditions of crafts, music, and faith. the country is a marvelous mix of mountains and desert, open ranges and cities crammed with life. adventure awaits.
From the moment you step off the plane, this mysterious land seduces the soul and the senses. If you've seen morocco in the movies, prepare yourself; it is much more than the barren deserts in "Lawrence of Arabia." Morocco is a shopper's delight- spices, fabrics, silver, and brass line the market streets. The scents of fresh orange juice, lemony
tagine, and cool mint fill the air. Exquisitely tiled ancient buildings stand beside monuments to kings long dead and gods fervently worshiped.
Kasbahs, Berbers, & Ergs. Morocco Beyond the City Limits. 12 Days.
Morocco is about color. In her great monochromatic cities, every building carries the local theme. Vibrant blue in Fez. Delicate pink in Marrakech. Bright white in Rabat.
R. Crusoe & Son offers two exceptional journeys to this sensual country in North Africa—our 10-day Morocco. As Time Went By, and our 12-day Kasbahs, Berbers, & Ergs. Morocco Beyond the City Limits.
On our 12-day guided tour, our first stop is Casablanca, entryway to the nation. The city is modern, Atlantic, and deeply influenced by the French. Very present and a good jump-off poin for a Moroccan holiday.
Make haste to Fez, the most complete and authentic medieval Islamic city in the world. Absolutely intoxicating, particularly the medina. Get cozy in the incomparable, top-notch Palais Jamai (and dream such dreams). Tour old and new Fez, from her souks to her most exquisite and unique tilework.
Next, a guided tour takes us through the Atlas Mountains, stopping at the village of Midlelt to examine the Berber way of life. The marketplace—especially the carpet souk—is incredible, and quite telling.
Then head into the Sahara Desert in a four-wheel-drive vehicle for a taste of quite a different lifestyle. Ride camels among the dunes in Mergouza to catch a
magnificent sunset, then get cozy in a deluxe tented resort in traditional Berber style.
The Dades Valley, next, an elongated dip between the Atlas range and the Jebel Sarhro Mountains. Some call it the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs. See why in and around Ouarzazate, founded by the French as a garrison in 1928 (though it's been a strategic spot since the first millennium A.D.). See a fantastic kasbah, and bargain with local merchants for authentic Ouzguita carpets.
Another kasbah awaits, this one in Ait Benhaddou. From here, we follow the picturesque Tizi n Tichka Pass to Marrakech. As in the other Crusoe journey, there is time to experience this magical city inside and out.
From Marrakech, it’s homeward bound for you. Pity, isn’t it?
