Waverley Station, Edinburgh.
A clansman in full regalia pipes you aboard The Royal Scotsman. Edwardian elegance on the rails. World's most exclusive train. Mahogany, overstuffed sofas and chairs, all the rare Scotch (or anything else you care to drink) with no tiresome chits to initial... and one of the best restaurants in Britain, moving or stationary. Forbes magazine calls it "a rolling palace of pleasure" with "a matchless combination of comfort and scenery."
Aboard The Royal Scotsman. Travel the Way It Used to Be. Highland Fling. 6 Days.
On a holiday through the Scottish Highlands, travel the most beautiful rail routes you can imagine. Surround yourself in Edwardian elegance aboard Eruope's most luxurious train, The Royal Scotsman.
Begin with a few days in Edinburgh, whose castle is the crown jewel of the Scottish crown (and, indeed, the Scottish crown jewels are kept within). Take a guided tour of the Royal Mile, and get a history lesson en route.
Then board The Royal Scotsman and head for the hills—the Highlands, that is. Take the Highland Rail Line to Perth, then continue on to Dalwhinnie for a tour of Dalwhinnie Distillery. See how scotch, "the water of life," is made, and take a taste for posterity. Stable overnight at Boat of Garten.
Meet Ray Owens, story spinner extraordinaire. He regales us with authentic old tales of heroes and villains and paints a clear picture of life in the Highlands. Just close your eyes and imagine…
Rothiemurchus is our base for adventures off the train. Fish. Try your hand at clay pigeon-shooting. Or relax fireside in the estate lodge, a real beauty. In Nairn, we disembark again for a visit to a top cashmere mill founded in 1797.
Overnight stabled in Dundee, then back to Edinburgh. Back in Edinburgh, head home, or talk to us about seeing more of picturesque Scotland on a custom guided tour, including a bit of golf, if you please.
