Back to Hangzhou: Welcome to China's east coast. The city of Hangzhou is known for its exquisite beauty. But that is not news; back in the 1400s, Marco Polo call Hangzhou "the finest and most noble city in the world." The focal point? West Lake, which resembles a traditional Chinese garden on a very grand scale. It is fringed on three sides by enchanting mountain peaks and on the fourth side by the city itself. Along the shore, ancient temples, towering pagodas, and delicate bridges create a perfect picture of China's historic side.
Visit a historic water town for a look at its old stone bridges, pathways, and wood carvings.
At a traditional tea plantation, see where some of China's finest leaves are grown and dried. Follow up with a tea tasting, then sit down to a tea ceremony.
We also attend a cultural show staged by none other than Zhang Yimou, who was responsible for the outstanding opening and closing ceremonies at the Beijing Olympics.
Take a boat ride on West Lake, if you choose. Perhaps you'd like a stroll along Qing He Fang, an historic shopping street?
