Did you know that Antarctica is the earth’s driest desert? Or that the cleanest air on the planet is found here? Or that Antarctica holds 70 percent of the planet’s fresh water and 91 percent of its ice? So much to learn. Join us for a life-changing exploration of the bottom of the Earth aboard one of our three favorite ships.

The Falklands, South Georgia, & Antarctica with Peter Hillary. Aboard the Clelia II. 21 Days.

Ever wonder what is would be like to journey to a far-off destination in the company of a true-blue, modern-day explorer?

King penguinsYou needn’t look any further.

In late 2009, R. Crusoe & Son and our travel partner, Travel Dynamics, offer two opportunities to do just that: South Georgia & Antarctica. With Peter Hillary in the Footsteps of Ernest Shackleton. 23 Days, and our Falklands, South Georgia, & Antarctica with Peter Hillary. 21 Days. For the 21-day journey, read on; for details about the 23-day cruise, see our South Georgia & Antarctica. With Peter Hillary in the Footsteps of Ernest Shackleton.

Come join Peter Hillary on an expedition to Antarctica. Hillary is a world renowned explorer, author, and speaker with 30 alpine expeditions to his name. Like his father, Sir Edmund Hillary, he has reached the summit of Mount Everest. He’s also traversed Antarctica to the South Pole. During our travels to Antarctica, he serves as our special expedition leader.

On this 21-day journey, we cruise from South America’s southernmost point, Ushuaia, Argentina, into the clear, icy waters of Antarctica and environs. Our ship? Travel Dynamics’s Clelia II. This small, 100-guest ship is being refurbished in early 2009. Her ice-strengthened hull, modern navigational and communications technology, retractable fin stabilizers, and fleet of Zodiacs make her the perfect vessel on which to poke around Antarctica.

King penguinsGather in Buenos Aires, Argentina, a wonderful and lively city (let us know if you want more time there before we head down to Antarctica). Then fly to Ushuaia, enter the Beagle Channel, and cruise to the Falkland Islands, a part of Argentina most people never get to visit. Then the South Georgia Islands. The Scotia Sea brings us to the South Orkney Islands, next. Finally, cruise the Antarctic Peninsula and its gorgeous, protected channels and bays. Then cross the Drake Passage, disembark in Ushuaia, and fly back to Buenos Aires and home.

R. Crusoe & Son offers two other Antarctic journeys in 2009-early 2011, each with multiple departures. For a look at these, go to:
