Local Flavor

Thailand (once, Siam). Never colonized by the Europeans—although they came in droves to shop at the floating markets. And Laos, kingdom of a million elephants. Landlocked. And subject to the whims of its neighbors. The richness of life in these two Southeast Asian countries is simply indescribable.

Chiang Rai Extension.

This is a four-day sample extension. Remember that R. Crusoe can create a Chiang Rai itinerary of any length to meet your exact specifications.

Chiang RaiLooking for international adventure? R. Crusoe & Son has five short custom tours of Indochina that you can mix and match. There are all sorts of ways to configure them. Take one or two (or all five), and add them to Crusoe’s guided Dream of Indochine journey. Or put some or all of them together for a wonderfully unique exploration of Southeast Asia. Have we mentioned that we throw in the best hotels and match you up with the top guides around?

Read on for information about our Chiang Rai extension, then see our other Indochine extensions:  the Vietnam Highlands, Bangkok, Laos, Chiang Mai, and/or aboard the luxurious Eastern & Oriental Express train through Thailand and Malaysia and into Singapore

In the Golden Triangle, Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar (formerly Burma) converge. Within the region is Chiang Rai, first capital of what would become Thailand. During your holiday, get comfortable in a luxurious Four Seasons tented paradise. Spend ample time in a neighboring elephant camp, taking lessons from the mahouts and getting a close-up experience with these magnificent beasts. Have dinner at the elephant camp. Take a safari to view the local wildlife, cruise the Mekong river, enjoy a tutorial in the local crafts. Altogether marvelous.
