Local Flavor

R. Crusoe & Son’s safaris are unique. We take you to places you can enjoy at leisure, places where you view animals from a specially designed vehicle, from a seat in a traditional dugout canoe, or on foot. We give you as much flexibility as possible. There is more freedom to choose what you wish to do, allowing you to approach Africa from your own particular perspective.
What an unforgettable moment—waking up in the bush luxury of a tented camp to catch a small herd of elephants soaking in the morning sun. Or deciding on a lark to join your safari guide for a game walk through a private wildlife reserve. Or taking stock of Southern Africa’s exquisite beauty over cocktails in the setting sun.
Crusoe’s journey covers a great deal of ground in South Africa and Botswana. We travel to the best private sanctuaries of Botswana and stay in the finest camps. We rely on professional safari guides and drivers who are enthusiastic and passionate about their country, who are experts in wildlife and local history. Finally, we surround our travelers with unexpected luxury so that you experience Africa’s wild side in a most civilized way.

Where the Buffalo (Elephant, Zebra, Hippo, Hyena, & Lion) Roam. South Africa & Botswana. 10 Days.

You will find Southern Africa as awesome as Dr. Livingstone, we presume, first did in 1855. The icing on the cake? All our safari camps and hotels are Orient Express properties, so you can imagine the level of luxury at each.

South Africa: MokoroArrive in Johannesburg, South Africa, and head for a quiet suburb, where your hotel awaits. Explore the city, and have a look at Pretoria, if you choose.

Then fly to the Okavango Delta, Botswana, where the Okavango River flows inland, forming a 4,000-square-mile mosaic of islands, lagoons, and waterways that eventually evaporate in the Kalahari Desert. You'll not soon forget your first mokoro ride. Animals are plentiful, having settled into their particular niches quite nicely. Beside game drives, game walks are a possibility here. Home is Eagle Island Camp, a marvelous property.

Bathing al fresco et Eagle Island Camp. Okavango Delta, Botswana. The adventure continues in the Moremi Wildlife Reserve, 3,000 square miles of the Okavango Delta. Habitats from woodland to savanna to lagoon support a dizzying array of species. On guided game drives, go in search of big cats, elephants, buffalo, and wild dogs. Bring extra film. You'll need it. Khwai River Lodge, home base here, simply cannot be topped. Aside from its perfect location at the edge of a fig forest, it also has a pool, a gym, a spa, and plenty of room to spend quality time with yourself.

South Africa: LodgeChobe National Park, next. Cape buffalo, hippo, warthog, antelope, and a fantastic cast of birds abound. Not to mention the elephants. (They’re rather hard to miss.) Team Predator is made up of lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog, jackal, and hyena. Look for these sly four-legged hunters in the marshlands, along with migrating zebra (the latter hope not to run into the former).

Nature at its most impressive combined with luxurious comfort. The hallmark of R. Crusoe’s Southern Africa safari. We have designed with the sophisticated traveler in mind—you.

More? If you are not ready to leave Southern Africa at the end of your safari, we suggest our four-day extension to Cape Town. It's high-end from start to finish, customized to your exacting specifications.
