Local Flavor

A yacht of your own through Alaska. Sound nice? R. Crusoe has fallen in love with American Safari Cruises’ exceptional fleet of yachts, and we want to give our travelers a heads-up about their availability.
Consider taking your very own small group on a customized cruise aboard the Safari Explorer or on one of two other vessels. Each is delightful, and each follows a terrific route through glorious Alaskan scenery.

Alaska's Glacier Country Aboard the Safari Explorer, the Safari Quest or the Safari Spirit. 8 Days.

Alaska: Bear

Yes, the world is your oyster. But don't forget to explore your own country, too.

Alaska calling. On an advenrture here, come and see for yourself the richness and beauty of our 49th state. R. Crusoe has found the ideal way to do that: aboard the Safari Explorer, a lovely 36-passenger cruise ship operated by our travel partner, American Safari Cruises. We also adore two other yachts of the fleet: the 22-passenger Safari Quest and the 12-passenger Safari Spirit.

The beauty of these vessels is their intimate passenger group size and the fact that they can anchor where no large ship can. But we also have a naturalist who accompanies us along the way; a talented kitchen crew; and an onboard larder stocked with, among other goodies, lots of premium wines and spirits. Think of your ship as a movable resort.

Alaska: WhaleBegin in Juneau, Alaska's capital and accessible only by boat, ferry, or plane. Icy Strait, known for its humpback population, leads us to Elfin Cove. The human population here? Thirty-two permanent residents, though the place swells to a whopping 300 in the summer, when the fishing is at its peak.

From there, enter Glacier Bay National Park, where the wildlife is, well, everywhere. Wolves, eagles, moose, mountain goats, seabirds, humpbacks, and bears. Hidden coves, calving glaciers await. Paddle kayaks through calm waters, where the only traffic is the occasional puffin crossing the inlet. Whale-watch. Experience authentic Alaska.

Glacier Bay National Park. Alaska.Next, cruise through Frederick Sound and Saginaw Bay to Admiralty Island. Get up close to a sea lion colony that calls the Brothers Islands home. Gambier Bay is pristine, and it's generally the best place to view immense grizzlies fishing from the shore for lunch. Wood Spit Point is a top hangout for humpbacks. Admiralty Island has a notable grizzly population.

Disembark in Juneau, and head home.

Please note: Some departures operate in the reverse direction.

Interested in chartering an American Safari yacht? Speak to an R. Crusoe tour specialist about accommodating your very own private, small group of travelers through Alaska. And make note of 2010 special pricing for charters of the Spirit or the Quest referred to at left. These offers apply to selected departures.
