Alaska's Glacier Country. A Family Journey Aboard the Safari Quest. 8 Days.
Yes, the world is your oyster. But don't forget to explore your own country, too.
Join R. Crusoe & Son on a family-oriented, close examination of our 49th state aboard an exceptional yacht, the 22-passenger Safari Quest, a member of a fleet operated by our travel partner, American Safari Cruises.
On this Kids in Nature journey, designed for children of all ages, see the Alaskan Panhandle—including Glacier Bay National Park and the Inside Passage—in utter style (think luxury that’s not at all stuffy).
Kayaks and inflatable skiffs keep us close to the action as we wend our way through some of the nation’s most spectacular scenery. On-board hot tubs prove irresistible. Mountain bikes provide perfect, earth-friendly transport on land. And naturalists fill us in on all that we see along the way. Alaska calling all families with a hunger of travel and adventure.
The beauty of the Safari Quest is her intimate passenger group size and the fact that she can anchor where no large ship can. This allows for a somewhat flexible itinerary, depending on the families' desires and the captain's information (a humpback just around the next bend, a grizzly feeding on a nearby beach). Naturalists accompanies us along the way. So do talented kitchen crews. And, among other goodies, lots of premium wines and spirits and microbrews. Think of your ship as a movable resort.
Begin in Juneau, Alaska's capital and accessible only by boat, ferry, or plane.
From there, spend two days in Glacier Bay National Park, where the wildlife is, well, everywhere. Wolves, eagles, moose, mountain goats, seabirds, humpbacks, and bears. Hidden coves, calving glaciers await. Paddle kayaks through calm waters, where the only traffic is the occasional puffin crossing the inlet. Whale-watch. Experience authentic Alaska.
Icy Strait, known for its humpback population, separates Chicagof Island from the Alaskan mainland. We anchor at Point Adolphus.
Next, Chicagof Island, whose waterfalls thrill. Watch for sea otters as we anchor off Baranof Island.
Cruise around the wilderness of Frederick Sound. Kayak and ride the skiffs through Saginaw Bay. Get up close to a sea lion colony that calls the Brothers Islands home. Take a hike on shore.
Cliff-walled fjords surround us as we cruise Ford's Terror. We hear the lore behind this interesting name.
Endicott Arm is on our itinerary—one very spectacular fjord. Anchor in Taku Harbor, the perfect setting for our captain's farewell dinner.
Disembark in Juneau, and head home.
Please note: On this journey, R. Crusoe & Son partners with American Safari Cruises. Unless you are chartering the yacht, you share the Safari Quest with other, non-Crusoe travelers.
