Local Flavor

Historians pinpoint the lands around the Aegean as the birthplace of Western thought and culture. Here, perhaps more clearly than anywhere else, one can see how early man blossomed into, well, a gentleman. On a cruise around the region, come meet Phoenicians, Minoans, Greeks, Romans, and their friends (and enemies) who reshaped their world through conquests, art, poetry, mythology, and a bit of luck.

3 Aegean Sea Cruises Aboard the  Seabourn Odyssey & the Seabourn Quest. 2010 & 2011. 8 Days.

Get cozy aboard the Seabourn Odyssey.Ready for an international cruise vacation?

Two elegant ships, the 450-passenger, luxury all-suite Seabourn Odyssey and the virtually identical Seabourn Quest (which makes her maiden voyage in 2011), cruise the Aegean Sea and beyond with R. Crusoe & Son. We take in the top sights through Greece and Turkey. Experts and local guides get us acquainted on small group tours this remarkable part of the world.

All of our departures, incidentally, begin in Istanbul and end in Piraeus, the port city of Athens. We suggest you take a few extra days to get to know these incredible destinations.

Among the possible ports of call and sites we visit:

Turkey:

Bodrum, formerly Halicarnassus, where the Mausoleum of Mausolus once Ephesus, Turkey.stood. An authentic 15th-century Crusaders' castle still stands here. Dikili, gateway to Pergamum, where outstanding Roman treasures simply floor us, especially the ancient library and the Ascelpion, yesterday's pre-HMO medical center. Canakkale, our gateway to ancient Troy. Ephesus, among the best preserved Roman ruin in the region. In Istanbul, Asia meets Europe in a riot of color, sounds, scents, and amazing architecture. Experience the city in the company of a top guide. Kusadasi is our entry point into Ephesus.

Greece:

Santorini, Greece.Milos, original Cycladic island home of the "Venus de Milo." Think colorful history and white-washed villages. Mykonos, one of the most charming of the Cyclades. Beautiful Navplion, a port on the Greek mainland and a mishmash of Venetian houses, classical mansions, and interesting fortresses. In 1704, monks completed a monastery in Skiathos that would later play a role in the war of independence. Patmos, where St. John received the revelations of the Apocalypse. Part of the island is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. On Rhodes, the medieval city is also on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Close your eyes and imagine the "Colossus of Rhodes" still straddling the harbor. The island of Santorini was once home to a colony of Minoans, until a volcanic eruption wiped them out 3,600 years ago. Piraeus is the port city of Athens.

Please note: On these journeys, R. Crusoe & Son partners with Seabourn, and Crusoe travelers share the Seabourn Odyssey and the Seabourn Quest with other, non-Crusoe travelers.
