History 101

World's worst trip?

Bad choice of destination? Poor accommodations?

No amenities? Unfriendly people?

Our miserable unwilling traveler had, however, just one good thing.

An enormous stomach for the unexpected.

And so it was, he ended up making the most famous trip in human history.

Introducing Turkey to friends.

Margot Baldwin had traveled in Turkey twice before she and her friend Norma asked R. Crusoe to plan a Turkey itinerary for them. “Each time I go,” Margot explains, “there’s something more to see.”

Istanbul was high on her list. Previously, she says, she’d stayed at the Ciragan Palace. “Nothing shabby, you know.”  But the Four Seasons, where Crusoe put them, was a much smarter option. “The hotel was simply superb, but it was also better placed. The Ciragan, after all, is a traffic-packed ride away from everything we wanted to see.

“The itinerary was excellent and well-paced,” adds Margot. “We were able to see some of the countryside, in this case the Anatolian plain, on our drive to Cappadocia, surely one of the surviving wonders of the world.”

The women were particularly taken with their escort. “From the moment he met us at the airport, we knew we had nothing to worry about. He was knowledgeable, organized, enthusiastic, and personable, and he went out of his way to provide little extras. We began the trip as guests and guide, and by the time we returned to Istanbul, we were friends traveling together.”
