History 101

World's worst trip?

Bad choice of destination? Poor accommodations?

No amenities? Unfriendly people?

Our miserable unwilling traveler had, however, just one good thing.

An enormous stomach for the unexpected.

And so it was, he ended up making the most famous trip in human history.

Into Egypt and Jordan.

"Excellent. Remarkable. Wonderful. One of the best trips that we’ve had.”

These are the reviews from the Sherman family and their friends, all of whom went to Egypt for a wedding.

When Karin and Jeff Sherman’s son, Brett, decided to get married in Egypt, Karin worked with R. Crusoe & Son’s Nina Choi to offer a more extensive trip to Egypt and Jordan after the festivities.

Some tour logistics had to be adjusted to fit the Shermans’ wedding schedule. “Nina did an excellent job in designing our Egypt tour with such care and consideration,” says Karin.

The morning after the big event, the group of 13 flew to Luxor and the adventure began aboard the Sonesta St. George, one of the Nile cruisers we adore.

Luxor beguiled the Sherman group as it does most everyone who visits. There were Karnak and Luxor temples, the Valley of the Kings, Tut’s tomb, the Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, and the Colossi of Memnon.

R. Crusoe also planned a private visit at the University of Chicago Oriental Institute’s Chicago House in Luxor. Founded soon after the discovery of King Tut’s tomb, Chicago House is home to the world’s leading experts on Luxor Temple.

“The Chicago House visit was very interesting with Dr. [W. Raymond] Johnson. We wish we had more time there,” says Karin.

From Luxor, the group cruised on to see the sights in Edfu, Kom Ombo, Aswan, Agilika Island. They finished up in Abu Simbel before heading back to Cairo. Then a foray into Jordan.

“We loved all of the accommodations and absolutely treasured our guide, the Egyptologist,” says Karin. “We wanted to take her home with us. She provided us with a greater understanding of the culture, history, and knowledge of Egypt. We learned so much.

“In addition, we really appreciated the calls that your local partners made in touching base with us. We thought it was a really nice personal touch.”

R. Crusoe & Son offers all of our travelers to Egypt their own Egyptologist and (depending on the time of year), a visit to the Chicago House. And our tour consultants work to create journeys that fit our travelers’ needs, whatever they may be.

“We all felt that we returned with more than just pictures of adventure, but also with the knowledge and appreciation of the most incredible ancient civilization, Egypt!” says Karin.
