History 101

World's worst trip?

Bad choice of destination? Poor accommodations?

No amenities? Unfriendly people?

Our miserable unwilling traveler had, however, just one good thing.

An enormous stomach for the unexpected.

And so it was, he ended up making the most famous trip in human history.

The International Senior Amateur Golf Society goes to China.

“We had perhaps the most wonderful escort in the whole, wide world,” says Jilla Williams of the Crusoe journey she and her husband Bob recently took as members of the International Senior Amateur Golf Society. “Veronica just made the trip for us. I couldn’t dream of anyone better. She was knowledgeable about China but went far above and beyond.”

ISAG in China

In fact, Jilla and Bob felt it was “a first-class trip, no question.” Shanghai was a particular highlight for Jilla. “It took my breath away. The construction. The building. It was quite spectacular—and unexpected. We got a good sense of how China is booming, where it’s headed, and how it will be a part of all of our futures.

“The Wall, the Forbidden City, the terracotta warriors—we’ve all seen pictures before. While it was remarkable to actually be there, we all had a sense of what to expect. Shanghai, on the other hand, really surprised us.”

The group of 11 travelers, strangers when they began, became “great buddies” along the way.

Jilla’s only concern, looking back? “The whole experience just spoiled us for future trips."
